Areas Around Terrebonne, Lafourche Parishes In Louisiana

Featured Replies

I'm just wondering if there's any other folks from these parishes around here who could help a newer bass angler. I have a small shallow water skiff that I mainly use for fly fishing but I wanna get into bass fishing, since the wind is always a killer here. I know Bayou Black can be hot, but the Intercoastal Waterway scares me in a small boat. Any tips, or maybe any clubs I could look into, would be very much appreciated

We'll pop this back up to the top and see if we can get a response.

Good luck!

With a small skiff I would recommend launching at Bayou Black Marina and fishing all the canals between the landing and the Intracoastal Waterway. I have fished this area for years and have had success.

Also, you could put in at Cannon's Boat Launch and run straight to the Intracoastal. Take a right and your about 1 mile from the Orange Grove area and there are tons of places to fish in there. Just be careful and you shouldn't have any problems.

I would recommend using a black/blue tail or red shad worm and small spinnerbaits like a 1/4 ounce Humdinger with a blue/chartreuse/white skirt. A swim jig can also be productive around the grass beds.

You will usually have better luck on a falling tide. I read the tide tables at Eugene Island. Good luck.

How small a "skiff" ya talking?

I've ran all over the Intracoastal waterway 14' jon boat with 25 hp. I'm currently running a 16' Alweld with a 40 hp.

Running the canal you will encounter tugboats or crew boats. Crew boats are faster & push decent wakes. Tugs not only push a wake but they draw water away from the bank. Both can cause problems if you're not careful.

When appoarching a tug I don't get to close to either the tug or the bank. But leaning more towards the bank.
