Fluorocarbon “binding” After spooling

Featured Replies

So I have been having issues of fresh flouro “binding” in on my reels after spooling them. Its like the main line is stuck under a layer of line on the spool but it pulls out and then its fine but it happens the more I go down the spool too.

It sounds like there was no tension on the spools when the line went on, causing loops (sort of like a backlash).  A loose knot on the spool might do this as well. Another thing might be that the drag and/or spool tension were backed out.

I tighten the drag all the way,how tight do you want to spool fluorocarbon? I spool them was tight tension but not like pulling the rod or stretching the line.

I spool mine on either a spooling machine or a Berkley line spooler.  With either one, I put tension on it by hand so it's pretty tight but not super snug. Once I cast it out, I pull a little more out and reel in.  After that it should be perfect.

It should look something like these guys when done......

My reels dont look off,Ill try more tension next time. Its not like the line jumps off but like as Im pulling line off its under the layer Im on until I pull it out and Im conscious when I spool to watch and make sure its not spooling funny.

It happens when you thread like through the level wind.  It's easy to pass line through a loop on the spool and you have unwittingly just put line under line.  The solution it to pull it out or make a long cast and go for a walk until the spool is empty when wind the line back on.
