Big plastic blue gill

Featured Replies

So in a incoming package I have some belly waited 5/0 screw in Trokars coming. I want to try those big plastic blue gill swim baits. specifically the ones

with paddle tails.  I know Berkley and savage gear make some.  What are others that are say under $20.

You can just buy one of these with its very own included hook.

5/0 swim bait hooks are a bit too small for weed less rigging a 4' soft gill, but they're good for slender profile swimmers like RI Skinny Dippers, Grass Pigs, 4.8" Keitech fats, etc.

That’s a possibility

Is there a difference between screwing a belly weighted hook into the swim bait or having one already in it like this one

Yes, the jighook baits aren't going to come through snags very well while the screwlock hook baits will.

One of my favorite soft swimbaits is the Little Creeper All American Sunfish and the 5/0 is the perfect size , admittedly a little pricey so be sure to have some mend it around to extend the life of them . https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Little_Creeper_All_American_Sunfish_Swimbaits_2pk/descpage-LCBG.html

That’s a nice lure.   Sure it would be a northern pike magnet.

I did order a pack of Berkley gillies in sunfish.  I’d like to try either the savage gear or the bio lab gill also.

Never say never but I haven't caught any toothy critters with it yet.
