Trolling motor info for 11' John Boat

Featured Replies

The only motor on my boat is a trolling motor , no other electronic equipment w/one 12 V battery.  Do I need a circuit breaker?

It's always a good idea to have a circuit breaker - or at least a fuse - in any electronics circuit. The MinnKota has a board in it that can be damaged, rendering the motor useless, if it gets fried.

I have never used any type of inline fuse or breaker with my 12-ft jon boat and Minn kota motor. Maybe I've just been lucky? Ran the same motor for over 12 years. Actually just purchased a new one last week.

A breaker or fuse is a good idea for ANY electrical circuit.

Yes, the manual should provide the amp draw. You need a fuse/breaker to cover that.

At least my Minn Kota does.

The minn-kota battery box is decent, and keeps you from running around with exposed terminals. Has a breaker built in, as well as a 12v cigarette lighter port for your phone.
