Motorguide rope replacement

Featured Replies

I broke my rope yesterday and i can't figure out how to replace it. I have searched for a how-to and cannot find anything. PLEASE help me if you can...

Man...that happened to me here while back and has happened a couple of times since then.  DO NOT go cheap on the rope.  Find a decent rope that you don't think will break.  It's a pain the first time.  You need a really good set of needle nose.  You have to run the rope in the small side slot and through that little hole in the middle.  Once you get it though pull it out the back and tie a knot in it.  Then you have to run it back up the shaft and bring it back around the silver pin.  I'm not gonna lie it was a ^&^%% the first time I did it.  Still take about 20 or 30 minutes.

It was a pain for me also, but I used tie wire or a coat hanger to get the rope through the holes.  It really does take some time.

Before you install a new rope, treat it with bow string wax. That will lessen the friction on it as it passes over the pin. Get the same rope as the mfg uses.

Go to a hardware store and get the white braided nylon that is a tad larger than the black original. Burn the end with a candle and just before it cools down take a leather glove and taper the end down to get it throught the little thing-a-ma-gig. after its been secured on both ends take the candle and rub on the place where its rubbed the most to reduce friction and make it last longer. good luck

Many thanks to all for the replies.  I'll go back out and try to figure out what you said. (sometimes i'm a moron) Should i tape the new rope to the end of the old and pull it thru to tie the knot, or am i still off-base and not understanding you? Be forwarned, i may pm one of you to get more details. Sorry and thank you...mark
