What did I do wrong with my Megabass Pop X?

Featured Replies

Ok, so I typically fish the mb pop x max.  Decided to pick up a pop x regular size.  Got out at first light and tossed it out there...but after working it a few times, I noticed it was diving down in the water if I didn't work it just perfectly.  I couldn't get a sense of what caused it to happen...at first I thought it was bc I was working it to fast, so I went slower and it happened again.  Then went fast and it worked fine. Happened several more times and ended up just putting it away.  I did tie a loop knot (just got back from intercostal fishing and had good luck with it).  I haven't been impressed lately with some megabass lures (i''ve got a ton) but tried 3 new crankbaits this trip (Z1, Z2 and S1.5) and all ran crooked at first.  ThenI also had a 110 recently that straight up sunk fast right out of the box.  Sent it back in and they sent me another. Love megabass...so I'm sure it's a fluke ...at least I hope so.   Any thoughts?

Dumb question, but I got to ask. Are you using Fluorocarbon line? If so, It might be the line sinking on you or sinking enough to mess with the action of your topwater lure.

Ha no not a dumb question at all.  No using braid to long mono leader.

I'll get home this evening and put the popper in water and see if it starts to sink.  I should have done that before I started this thread.  I've just never had this happen, but I've never used this particular lure so didn't know if it was something I was doing wrong. Thanks

Sounds like it may have developed a leak, but those little Mega poppers don't like to be over worked, so it might be that too.
