most stable kayak for small rivers

Featured Replies

I had the same question as others when looking for a Kayak.  Which one is stable, but which one is most stable in small rivers?  I fish some small rivers for smallmouth and rock bass.  Can't get a pedal kayak.  Water is too shallow at times. Occasionally have to take some short rapids with sharp turns.  I have a Pelican Catch 10'.  Its stable in those rapids with the seat in the low position, but not so much with the seat in the high position.  I prefer fishing with the seat higher, but I dumped it a couple of times with the seat there.  Am I just wishing for too much?

I have a Bonafide RS117. It is very stable and maneuverable. If you're floating it is a great choice. If you want to paddle upstream against much flow it might not be the best choice.

It's too bad there isn't a crescent dealer within 100 miles of Chicago.  I probably would've bought a CK1.  Instead I bought a Nucanoe Flint, another good creek boat

I just use outriggers on my Old Town Big Water 132 PDL.  They can attach to almost any kayak and provide quite a bit of stability.

Jackson Coosa.  I don't have one but I've used one on several floats and it's the most stable I've been in.  Even with the seat in the high position.  You can stand up easily also.
