Lewis Smith Lake (Alabama) - the very basics?

Featured Replies

I'm going on a guy's trip this weekend and we're going to be staying on Smith Lake. I've been there before, but never fished it. Lots of spotted bass, yeah? Any smallmouth?

I'm only taking a couple of medium power rods but I'm thinking ned rigs, paddletails, weightless senkos skipped under docks, drop shot... does that sound about right?

edit: I'll be fishing from a dock and will venture out short distances in a kayak

No smallies there.  But big spots and stripers.  This time of year it is mostly night fishing due to temps.

I was only able to piddle around on the lake a little, but Saturday morning I got out early and got this guy to bite a chatterbait Mini Max. I had forgotten how much a little spottie can fight. I hardly ever get to fish anything resembling a steep, rocky lake, so this was a nice change of pace.
