How are you guys rigging the gilly to swim straight

Featured Replies

I picked up some 90’s and some 130’s. They didn’t have the 110’s. What size hooks you using. I tried  a5/0  on the 130 yesterday. It layed  over sideways. I think it’s too much hook on one side. Gonna try a 4/0 next time. Ended up getting one. Cool bait should be great for some ponds i fish. Can’t wait to grab some of the 110’s should be the perfect size.
thanks in advance.

Try some neko weights in the belly. Experiment with weights until it balances

Thanks for the info guys. I ended up watching a few videos. I think my biggest problem was to much hook. Gonna grab some nail weights and downsize. Thanks again.

I’m using the 6/0 beast hook on the 130.  I fished it for the first time yesterday. I had a couple decent hits and water was clear enough that I could see what was probably a 2lbs bass hitting it.  I think he just got the tail though.

I love the action on it so far.  I may have to buy the smaller version.  As it would have to be a fairly large Michigan bass to choke a 130.

The one I caught was 2-1/2 on the 130.

That’s a lot of hook. Are you using nail weight to even it out.

No it seems to swim fine in it’s own.  I’m using 6/0 beast hook with 1/4 wieght molded onto it.

Are you side rigging it.

No regularly rigging it.  The hook point goes through the hook slot

Really not like this.

This is how I’m doing it.  It swims straight and the tail has a lot of action.  When you kill it.  It kinda flutters and cork screws down

Cool, I didn’t think you would get enough hook out the top like that. The top is pretty soft though.
thanks for posting that.

Does water fill up the hollow cavity in the top like that.

Not that I’m aware of.  I fished it a bit yesterday

You don't.  A gill swimming with that S shape struggling to keep itself upright  and is fenced in near the surface is a dinner bell to bass.

I did think that as well.

130mm with 4/0 Trokar EWG, third cast ever using this bait.  22 1/4" right at 7lbs.  Fished weightless it rides mostly upright and lays on its side when I kill it.  Stuck a neko weight under the chin and it rides better upright and tends to just fall nose first when killed, definitely better over deeper grass.

The 90s need a 1/0 EWG, 110s fit a 3/0 EWG.  Going to go throw them around again here shortly.  The 130mm I believe isnt going to illicit many bites, but they ones that do bite are going to be quality fish.
