Which reel for NRX 852c?

Featured Replies

Which reel would you prefer to lair with the NRX 852c, a metanium DC or a Steez CT SV TW?

the steez is lower profile but not sure which pairs better and provides better balance.

is there any advantage of one over the other aside from looks.

I would choose either the regular Metanium 150, or the Steez.

No reason to get the DC version IMO.

Steez gets my vote.  I had a metaniun DC and sold it after a few trips I just didn't mesh with it couldn't cast it far imo.  I sold it and got a Steez SV TW that I like more.

This is going to sound a bit odd but since both are great reels, I’d at least consider opting for the heavier one, whichever that may be. The NRX is a great line but they’re a bit older and they were designed with older, heavier reels in mind, balance-wise…reels that were being released 2010-2012. Strictly speaking, they’ve always felt BEST with e series, g series, etc…to me at least.

That being said, my favorite NRX combo reels are 13-16 metaniums and aldebarans, the latter of which is ridiculously lightweight. They don’t balance perfectly but they’re SO lightweight, it’s kind of a wash. That’s my 2 cents…either go for balance with a slightly heavier reel or go for broke and get something so lightweight that it tends not to matter.

As far as balance goes, I have two IMX-Pro 852c rods loaded with Metanium 150’s that balance great.

In fairness, I haven’t used any other reel on my NRX 852c than a Steez SV TW. I paired them on purpose to skip weightless plastics. Phenomenal.

That being said, the rod/reel seem to balance very well.  You would get more casting distance with a BFS reel, but if you want to be able to throw lighter lures in the wind without backlash, or to skip a weightless wacky worm, it’s the shizzz...

Have the steez ct/sv/tw on mine and it is a dream combo!
