Ned rig snags - am I doing something wrong?

Anytime you are fishing a bottom contact lure like a light weight Ned jig don’t use FC line! Fluorocarbon Line can sink down into rocks etc increasing snagging.

Suggest using straight monofilament lines including copolymer line that tend to float or suspend above the bottom decreasing snags.

If you are a braid to leader users use a mono leader in lieu of FC leader.

The lighter jig weight you can get by with helps to reduce snags.

My preference is use a cylinder weight with a slip shot rig and the Ned style worm skin hooked. If you get rock snagged don’t pull hard, lift the rod as high as possible and gently shake the slightly loose line with rod tip frees snags very high % of the time. If it doesn’t come free walk to one and try a different angle. Force is your last attempt.

Using your rod is asking for a broken tip, lures are cheaper.

That “spear” suggestion sounds like prank advice. He looks like he’s having a hard time keeping a straight face. And he does it in rip-rap!

I’ve heard that “plucking-the-line” suggestion before too, and the first time you hear it, it sounds plausible, but after you try it once, you realize it’s kind of silly.
