  1. Same here. When I got the text from DHL on some carbon steel skillets I ordered from Argentina saying I owed $78 for "import duty" or whatever, I initially thought it was a scam. But it wasn't, it was real. So if you've already received your package what's FedEx going to do if you don't pay? How much was it if you don't mind my asking, or did it not say?
  2. Not fishing tackle but I ordered two carbon steel pans from a company called Darto International out of Argentina. (they make great pans, btw if anyone is into carbon steel). Anyway, the pans shipped on Aug 28 through DHL. I received a text & email from DHL on Aug 30 that I owe import duty of $78.11. I thought it was a scam because the pans themselves only cost $120 and Darto is well known for charging customers a flat rate for shipping ($15) and covering any additional tariffs or duty themselves. I contacted Darto and sure enough, DHL did this and it's real. Darto said I could either pay the $78 and they would reimburse me, or they would handle it through DHL but it would take longer to get my pans. I elected the latter and my pans have been sitting in DHL's warehouse in Austin for the past week. I don't know what's going to happen but I'm not paying $78 in duty on $120 worth of pans. I have no idea how DHL came up that number, I don't think we have a 65% tariff on Argentina. It's very frustrating. Which brings me to fishing tackle. I've been wanting a Daiwa 21 Zillion TW SV in 7.1 gear for a while and have been watching the Japan Lure Shop and Digitaka websites. Inventory is kinda spotty - JLS has been out of them for several months and Digitaka seems to get one or two in every month or so and they sell out almost immediately. Anyway, the other day JLS finally restocked, and I was about to put one in the cart but hesitated because of the Darto hold up. I don't want to get stuck in this loop again. Following this thread to see how the JDM's end up handling this. Please continue to post your experiences.
  3. Another vote for Grandebass. They make great baits and you can rig them all kinds of ways. Sometimes I wonder why I carry anything else. I've also had some success with Missile quiver worms.
  4. I've had a little success with a NetBait Stumpy Crush Worm but I generally do best with just a plain old straight tail Roboworm.
  5. It shows out of stock for home delivery but still in stock at some store locations, at least around me.
  6. FYI, Academy knocked another 20% off this reel. Possibly a Father's Day sale? They're showing up at $56 in the cart now.
  7. They appear to have extended it through Father's Day, at least on some things. There was a discussion of this reel a few weeks ago. Originally priced at $149, Academy had them marked down to $70, now with 20% off it's showing up in the cart as $56. I think it was determined that this is the same reel BPS sells as a KVD edition maybe? Don't want it, don't need it, hoping you guys will deplete the inventory so I will no longer be tempted. Please.
  8. Ha, this is me exactly. But I'm getting better about it.
  9. fwiw, I didn't follow through with the order but I loaded one into the cart and applied the code and it took $110 off. I'm not a premium member.
  10. With the exception of Fat Ika's, I almost never have any luck with any soft bait that's not basically a stick or trick/finesse-style shape worm. I force myself to mix in various craws and creatures every so often but I honestly can't recall even a single fish I've caught on one. I dunno why.
  11. My experience has been that Academy kind of randomly puts stuff on sale, doesn't necessarily publicize it, sometimes it's in-store and sometimes it's online only. Sometimes it's neither and you just stumble on a deal, like I did once when I price checked an $89 Shimano GLX rod and it pulled up $17. It seems like there's not really any rhyme or reason to it, and it seems to vary by region and even by store within the same city. There's an Academy very close to my house so I'll pop in once every other week or so whether I need anything or not just to see what might be going on.
  12. I noticed they now have their own H20X branded soft plastics for $3.99/pack. I saw some senkos, trick worms, and either crawfish or creatures (can't remember). They were on a display rack at the entrance of the store. I meant to grab a couple of bags before I left but I left through an empty checkout line and forgot about them. So take THAT bait monkey.
  13. That's a great deal on those tungsten weights. I stopped by my local Academy this morning to see if I could do the same and they pulled up $59.98 on the scanner.
  14. Wow, those are gorgeous. No, I am not buying any more worms. Back off, bait monkey.
  15. Yeah, the Megatail Rattlesnake is similar to that. https://grandefishing.myshopify.com/collections/8-megatail-rattlesnake
