Learning in NC

Featured Replies

Well I have been trying to get out as much as I can sadly I only get an hour here and there.
two nights in a row I’ve gone o-fer

i don’t mind as I am still learning and I am trying to get my casting right etc and I know there is a lot to figure out.

the worst part is hearing fish jump near where you are and not being able to catch them.

Hope to go practice more tomorrow.

If it's any consolation the fish you hear jumping are probably carp.  You aren't going to catch them if you're fishing for bass.

T'is the season bro. It's gotten really slow here and usually does in the dog days. Sometimes it doesn't rebound for a while. Lately, I've been considering live bait.

Yeah I think I’m gonna take some live bait with me or some of that catfish stuff we’ve got some catfish on that and At least you are catching something you know

What part of NC are you in?   I caught 11 bass today(Labor Day) in Lake Wylie.  I fished mostly in NC today.  I've got licenses for both NC and SC so I don't worry about where the State line is.

central not far south of Raleigh

I was up at smith mtn lake in va this weekend and it was like a boat race out there. Didn’t catch anything but I also didn’t have a lot of time

talked to an old timer and he said it’s been rough except early in the am

My Sister lives in Cary.   I've been to Jordan a few times but it was decades ago.  The real ess is right, dog days of Summer is tough.   Night fishing, and early mornings are your friend.

Keep after them, you have plenty of big bass in North Carolina.

I’m trying.
It’s been a lot more misses than hits lately

starting to wonder if I’m doing it wrong or if I’m just bad!

Have you always lived in NC and just started or did you relocate from another state?

For me it took a while to really get in a groove when I moved from middle of NY to here. Decent difference in bass behavior/area...or at least aggressiveness.

I’ve lived around this area my whole life

i used to fish 30 years ago but we didn’t care we just used crickets and or worms and caught mostly bream, sunfish etc

got back involved and it’s a different world for what I want to do now.

the learning is more finding spots at the lake to fish, learning diff lures or jigs etc vs drowning worms
