Tournament boat loading up

Featured Replies

I started to fish tournaments this year by my self and these are 20 plus boat tournaments. I have a tracker v-18 with no keel guard and only one talon. The ramps support one boat and it seems there are always people docked there with two power poles so they don’t swing into others boats. So I’ve been having to wait until all 20 load up then struggle to get in on time for weigh in. The banks are very rocky what do you suggest?

Be the first one back to the ramp.

Advocate to have returning boats cross a specific point at which time they will be considered “checked in”

Then proceed to weigh-in in a first in basis or by boat number with the fish remaining in the live well until it’s their time.

It’s easier on the fish and traffic flow.
A 20 boat field is rather small so there shouldn’t be any problems.

If none of that works @Dwight Hottle has your only option.

I am in a similar situation with my rig at some ramps. I only have one talon and often there is one dock right next to the ramp. I don’t fish in tournaments but quite frequently I have to wait my turn so I park my boat on the opposite side of the dock from the ramp with the one talon down, and then use a small pre-tied rope that quickly goes from my cleat to a cleat near the end of the dock. My talon keeps the stern in place and the rope from the cleats holds the bow in place. The location I will be fishing on Monday morning is like this and I’ll try to take a photo.

The OP didn’t mention if there was even a dock or not at the access. Without a dock, my cleat option up front obviously wouldn’t work.

Just get a old small tire to put on shore and pull your boat up on the tire. We did this when racing boats to protect the hull and the tire keeps the in place even in waves and wind.

Make a friend or 2 you can trust backing down or loading your boat?

One has to be the first to load but it can help speed up the process vs everyone going solo.  Last Saturday I somehow pulled loading duty and trailed 3 boats in 15 minutes without much more then a "hey you got me"?  Being back and loaded early was also telling of how my day went fishing.
