NRX+ 873CRR and moving baits

Featured Replies

I know this is one of the best jig and worm rods on the market. How would it be as a dual purpose rod throwing moving baits and bottom contact? Is it too powerful for underspins, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, etc?

I’ve had this exact NRX+ model and fished with it early this season. Worms and jigs up to 1/2oz were well suited. I also pulled double duty on it and fished up to 1/2 oz chatters and spinners.

The 873 CRR has a fairly mod-fast tip on it I’d say. Had no issues pulling double duty with it.

But I did sell it off eventually. Some days I felt like a darn fool with a $500+ rod in my hands. I’ve found my Okuma TCS rods to be a better fit for me. Cleaner build, the needed sensitivity I prefer, and also backed by a lifetime warranty at a fraction of the NRX+ cost.

I have the gen 1 873, and I feel it's a little too stiff for spinnerbaits/chatters.

It’s personal preference but I don’t want maximum sensitivity and prefer glass rods for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits…I feel like I am a little slower to react and get deeper hookups.  Even though they are single hooks, I also like some parabolic bend for those runs close to the boat.  If it’s a matter of limits on what you can carry, it could work but IMO, it’s not ideal..
