Any real (reel world?) world reviews of the Daiwa Tatula PF?

i dont need it right away.  i can do some rod/reel musical chairs and fish away happily.  i have a rod.  Levante Perfect Pitch.

i want a pitching setup.  big jigs and tex-rig worms in close quarters, with submerged weeds and trees.   i think the setup would need to do some double duty.  maybe swimbaits like MagDrafts or spark shads.  even used to toss an umbrella rig on occasion this winter.  i thought the LEWS SP pro would work, but i think i do need more line capacity for the swimbaits and such.   enter the Daiwa Tatula PF.  neat feature where i can thumb up the spool button if a fish grabs hold right away.

anyone have this reel and love or hate it?  i would also love to learn to skip with this.  thinking 17lb flourcarbon to start.  maybe braid on the light side?  30lb braid?  dunno.

if i have a fishing weakness, it is putting together good combos.  i suck at it.  my friend recently got so tired of watching me fish a frog with such the wrong combo, he put extra gear together and gave me a frog setup.  (dont tell him, but i am punching with it.  hahah)

That's basically every daiwa.  For what a us tatula flip and pitch costs I would get a jdm zillion hd.

Can you elaborate? ( the free TW tshirt is mighty alluring). Just sarcasm. Haha.

You lift the back of the thumb bar up with the tip of your thumb on every daiwa I own and it trips the clutch.  This is not unique to the flip and pitch.

no.  sorry I wasn't clear.

why choose a JDM Zillion HD ($324?) over the domestic Tatula PF?

JDM Zillion HD is $284 at Digitaka.

I recently got a Elite P/F but haven’t used it yet. Got it second hand barely used and it looks/feels brand new.  Paid $150 for it.

Also just got a Zillion HD which I haven’t used yet either.

My Zillion SVs are just hard to put down.

I’ve been using the Elite P/F all summer now and so far so good. I have it paired with a Shimano Zodias currently. Palms great (even with my small hands). I use it for close quarters as well and it’s been fantastic.  Especially with the longer handle. However, I’m still not used to the knobs on the handle. They’re not bad, very easy to grab but I’m still not used to turning it and it still feels awkward at times.  I have other Tatulas and Curados so I’m used to the smaller knobs I suppose.

See the post below yours.  If that is an impass then go to tacklewarhouse and buy a tatula flip and pitch for full retail plus tip.

Wow.

the JDM has better features?  Drag? A different brake?  What?  What makes it a better choice?  Lighter?

It’s a new zillion, so all the hyper gearing and features which are utterly fantastic. I’ve sold multiple Metaniums to buy Zillions. It’s the best reel on the market for general purpose bass fishing.

The HD is the same reel with the USDM brass gears and the 100mm handle.

Drag doesn’t matter for bass fishing as long as it’s smooth.

Thanks for the info!  I will drill deeper.

we have plans to be in Japan in march.  I have dreams of walking into a Japan fishing store with my conversion calculator and a fist full of foreign cash.

it be will be a bummer to not have warranty coverage.  Minor bummer.

thanks again .

The warranty doesn’t scare me nearly as much on reels vs rods. I can always replace some fiddley bit in a reel but can’t fix a cracked blank.

Good luck and snag some deals!

?? Every reel I’ve ever owned you can do this.

The P/F is a good reel. I used mine as is for a few years without a problem. Decided recently though that I don’t need a shallow spool to pitch. Changed the spool out to a elite long cast and put It on my Carolina rig rod. It’s now just a Tat Elite with sweet power handles, which I love.
I put a JDM Zillion HD on my pitching/t-rig rod.
Love them both. Can’t go wrong with JDM right now though.
