where to go?

Featured Replies

Looks like hurricane Ian messed up the fall fishing in much of Florida. I have been looking for a place to go get on the water in central Florida and all of the boat ramps I normally go to are closed due to wind damage to docks and flooded ramps and parking areas. If you know any boat ramps in central Florida that are still open please list below, Thanks.

I sent an email to FWC, but I am sure they are too busy to respond. I really just want to get out on the water, after a week of hurricane clean up.

We normally go to either Kissimmee or Okeechobee in February but this year is really messed up.  I heard Kissimmee got a lot of rain that trashed the lake and there’s a 200 boat tournament going out of Roland’s the week we were planning to go.  I’m looking for alternatives myself.

stick marsh, headwaters lake in east central Florida is a good place to go.water is a little high, but fish are still there.

What Crypt said.
All ramps in Volusia county are closed.  Probably Seminole county too.

This includes a lot of the St. John’s river.
Your best bets are isolated lakes not in a river system.

Harris, Clermont or Winter Haven chains come to mind.
Johns lake in Winter Garden is another.

The landscape surrounding ponds/lakes has certainly changed down here in SWFL!

Ramps are closed on John's lake and the Conway chain. Still looking for any confirmation on others in the area. FWC said ramps are not their jurisdiction and are usually run by city or county governments. Looks like it may be along time before I can hit the water in this area.

I hesitate to post this as we have enough boat traffic as it is.  The Harris Chain water levels are normal.  If anything, they dropped the water before the storm.

Lake Washington on the St. Johns in Melbourne is open. water is high but they were hitting buzz baits yesterday. just keep moving and look for busting shad on the surface. lower end of lake where river dumps into lake is ripping so be careful if you want to try and fish the lower end.
