promariner charger question

Featured Replies

I have the prosport 20 plus 3 bank charger usually when I hook it up I get the red and green light while charging and when it is done the red goes out and I just have the green. well the question is last time I plugged the batteries in it went to the green light right away but I know the batteries were less than half charge, are the batteries bad or the charger or what. batteries are all interstate deep cycle and less than 2 years old, I checked all the fuses and connections, what gives I just don't want to go out and  have have the batteries not charged.

Can't really answer your question but, I just had some issues with a charger that was on my boat when I bought it.  They were great to work with on the phone.

It could be your batteries. I have that charger and haven't hand any issues.

I have had a battery that was depleted to the point where it literally took minutes for it to "charge" and an hour or so to deplete when hooked only to my fish finder. Now it does exactly what your batteries are doing - showing fully charged almost immediately upon hooking it up, and taking minuts to deplete. I was able to narrow it down to the battery being the problem by hooking it up to a portable charger and getting precisely the same result. (Actually tried it with two portable chargers with the same result.) Think of it as filling a shot glass versus filling a bucket.

BTW, I have a small jon boat and use my 20+ in the garage. I have it mounted on the wall at my "battery station." I leave my batteries hooked up to it 24/7 when I am not fishing. If you are letting deep cycle batteries sit around after being discharged, or are not letting them sit on your 20+ all the time so they get a float charge, the life of the battery will be shortened.

Anybody messing with TM batteries should have one of these http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/WESTWARD-Battery-Tester-1EFX6?Pid=search if they have caps on them.   If you have sealed batteries, take them out and have them tested.  Most places that sell batteries will test them for free.
