No, the yoke has the silver metal piece showing in the center near the pinion gear. The yoke and pinion gear were put together and slide into the pinion bearing in the frame. Then the springs put on the posts, on top of the yoke.

The yoke is black, as are the surrounding parts so it's hard to make out, but it has a silver piece in the center.

Good deal. It was hard to see in the pic. That's a strange noise, hope you get 'er figured out.

This ever get resolved??

Not yet, tore it down and back up a few more times. Going to try one more thing and then looking to have it sent out for repair.

If I can't get it fixed after one more try, it will probably be headed your way. I want a trusted professional to fix it if I messed it up. Hopefully I will learn a lesson here :)

So I took one more look at the reel, went to the spool this time. I noticed a slight dent in the rim of the spool. Pictures don't show it, but I can feel it, it's slight but it's there. I must have mishandled the spool at some point.

@Delaware Valley Tackle would this cause this type of noise? My thinking is the spool isn't locking into the pinion under drag because of the small bend in the rim of the spool, causing the spool to not properly fit against the reel.

You and me both. I have no idea why I need to know how this turns out, but I do.

Typically a dented spool will have a detrimental affect on casting if it’s bad. Free spool suffers and you can feel it. It wouldn’t affect pinion engagement

I wanted to post an update in case this happens to anyone else. I put the reel away for awhile. I decided to order new parts for the reel from plat Japan. Specifically a new main and pinion gear, yoke, springs, and a new spool pin.

The parts came in a few days ago and I swapped them out today. Problem solved. Which exact part was the culprit, I am not entirely sure. But I didn't want to have to reorder any parts due to shipping and duty fees.

I also wanted to thank all members who chimed in and especially @Delaware Valley Tacklefor his advice and offer to help. This problem became personal, I probably damaged the reel and I was hell bent on learning from my mistake.

Thanks everyone and hopefully this helps someone in the future.

Glad to hear problem resolved and it’s working back to normal.   ??
