GCX 802 S JWR vs AVID

Featured Replies

Hey guys, looking at picking up a new spinning rod and want to know how the GCX 802S JWR compares to the SC Avid or Victory line.  Thanks.  Randy

No thoughts?

I haven't fished that GCX rod, but I did recently hold it in a shop. It was really nice. Felt crisp and has a nice taper.

Thanks @waymont.  I tried to do a little research on this site and others but didn't see where anyone compared the two.

The victory rods I bought I ended up selling after a couple of trips.  They felt really cheap to me, probably due to the strange foam pieces and really slim cork.  I absolutely love my old Avids, I'm still bummed they discontinued the casting models.

I haven't fished the GCX but it is the same blank as the 2018 E6X models which are really good.

the 2015 E6X's sucked.

I am not a fan of the reel seat on the Victory Line, the casting models have thick foam where the exposed blank should be under the reel. SC really missed an opportunity here.

The GCX has the exposed blank reel seat
