Running 12V trolling motor with 24V system?

Featured Replies

Is there any harm done to a 12V trolling motor by running it w/ a 24V system (2 12V batteries)?  Is it beneficial in any way?

I believe if you run 2 batteries parallel instead of in the usual 24 volt series you can run a 12V motor off of two batteries so your motor should last longer. I'd research it a little before trying it but I'm pretty sure it can be done, just have to deal with the added weight in your boat.

As mention you MUST reconnect the batteries in parallel instead of series or you WILL burn the motor out.    You will get almost twice the run time using the two batteries instead of just one.
