Looking to have a older Spinnerbait style explained

Featured Replies

Can someone explain to me what a single blade number 5 would be around the pre spawn I’m assuming a Colorado blade, does the arm need to be shorter on this style who makes a good one?

how do you fish a Spinnerbait like this hopped?

Sounds like you're talking about a big single colorado spinnerbait.  tons of thump.  If you get a spring rain and the water muddies up and rises, there's you're lure.  Tons of thump for the fish to find it in the muddy water, fishes shallow really well which ties with rising spring water.  You need to fish them a little slower than a big double willow because of the water resistance.  You don't need a short arm, pick whatever arm you want.  Fish it just like any other spinnerbait- target casting to likely areas.

Also, a big thumper like this is great at night.  There's a reason most 'night' spinnerbaits are black with a single colorado.  Most visible profile in low light and largest acoustic signature (i.e. thump).

Missouri angler Charlie Campbell designed a spinnerbait years ago called the CC spinner. It had one large blade. I had good luck night fishing with this one. Also worked well on the drop. The big blade puts out a lot of thump and vibration.

I was mainly thinking of just slowing lifting up and down around cover with this technique

You can do it.  Slow rolling a big colorado on a heavy head is a thing.  Its not my thing, but its a thing.

Stanley's  Black Magic Vibra Shaft 1/2 oz, single gold Colorado blade, white skirt.

Slow rolled on the bottom.

Cast bank shallow, slow reel keeping it on the bottom & following the bottom contour.

Is the lifting it sorta like a jig not a legit thing? I wonder if I read that wrong

You mean hopping it off the bottom?  I’m sure that might work but it’s not built for that. Slow roll it across the bottom, lift the rod tip to bring it up 3’, and then let it flutter down on a taut line might be what you read.

I like to use them in colder muddy water.  You can slow roll a 1/2oz bait in 18" of water without hitting the bottom.  Zorro makes a long and short arm single col.  I replace the band with wire, makes the skirt puff out a little.
