I was looking at the JDM Shimano Exsence BB because the price is great on it but after looking into it more it's a fairly heavy reel at 8.5oz. Where the Ultegra FC weighs in at 7.9oz and both have 5+1 bearings. the Ultegra is a fraction more expensive than the Exsence and I'm wondering if anyone has both and could make a recomendation? I have a couple of Ultegras already and I do like them, I just figured I would look into something a little bit different this time. 

Ultegra is a nice reel, but Exsence is worm-drive, and will have the best line management over its longer life if threadline braid is in your sights.  

 

I looked up the schematic, btw - you're correct that the new Ultegra is worm drive.  However US website says FC is not available here.  

 

I'll never understand why people want light weight over strength, rigidity and long service life.  

I believe Ultegra FC is worm driven, any model below Ultegra isn't at least in USDM.

I have one BB and really it is high end reel, Yes it is heavier from my other Exsence, But still pretty good reel for the money. Get the BB and youll like it. 

I might give the BB a try, just something different than I already have and I have a rod that actually required a heavier reel so it might balance out nicely. 

Now I have one last question, has anyone used the Shimano Miravel? It looks like the specs are pretty close to the Ultegra but lighter and less expensive. What does the Ultegra of Exsence BB have that the Miravel doesn't?

Cross Carbon Drag from 3000 and up on both or maybe 4000 and up on the Miravel???
