UPDATE!!! SORRY EVERYONE but Photobucket wants me to spend 399 dollars to host my pictures...I just refuse to do that!  You can still check the pics out with this link: http://s709.photobucket.co

  • Picked up my bass raider 3 or 4 months ago and I absolutely love it.  I did a bunch of mods including a casting deck and the deck is rock solid.  It's 3x more stable on my deck than standing in some o

I am looking at getting a trailer from. Harbor freight. They are like 40 of 42 inches wide. Online days pelican beam is 52...anyone used one of these harbor freight trailers.?

I have no expeirence personally with these trailers but i've seen pics of them online used for transporting boats like ours. From what i've seen & read they seem to work good for these boats. One guy used a piece of plywood covered in indoor/outdoor carpeting as his deck for the trailer. He had eyelets bolted to each corner for securing the boat with ratchet straps. If i remember correctly he mentioned he had like only $300 invested into this trailer. It looked nice and fit the boat well.

Take the time and read/search this thread. There is info here about "plastic welding" to fix holes/cracks.

Looking for some ideas on reinforcing, and strengthening the plastic bottom of my pelican boat. I dont beleive its a bass raider. Its about 12 ft long but it is pelican brand. Its shaped a bit a bit differently with a flat bottom.

I got it for $200, so I figured its a good deal, but the thing has had some pretty deep scratches in it, and it looks to have been drug around a fair amount.

If one of the scratches were to open up or fracture, what would I be able to do to fix it. The first idea I had was to put a piece of sheet metal over it then use duct sealant to seal it up(worked in hvac for awhile haha).

When dragging it on the ground it mostly lays even, but most of the scratches are in the front corner and the back corner. Anything I can do to strengthen  it up so I can drag it without fear of scratching it?

I know the best option would be to get a trailer, but its out of the option. And when Im loading it and unloading a 12' boat thats about 4' wide, it almost forsure has to get drug across concrete a little bit.

Thanks!

I would use fiberglass cloth and resin and hardener.  I have used it in the past and it worked very well.

Pelican states that the Ram-x hulls can only be properly repaired by (poly/plastic) welding.  I would question if even fiberglass resin would adhere long term, and it's pretty aggressive stuff.

Would this work?

There's a review from February on that site saying that he used it to repair a Pelican boat and it worked well.  Curious how he said that it has held up for a year yet he left the review last month.  Good luck...

Does anyone know when stores might be apt to put a Pelican Bass Raider on sale?

Does anyone think that there is a 'superior' brand/model of this type boat? Is Pelican Bass Raider it? I have read this entire thread over a year's time (90% of it last year) and don't want to read the entire thread again! Thanks!

I have an old Bass Tracker and it works fine but if I could get a better design, maybe a little bit lighter, I would sell mine.

Dick's always has a boating sale in the spring, I got $100 off mine during the sale, and they gave me another 10% off for opening a Dicks credit card. I believe that this sale was late April/early May

I don't know if it's a "better" design but I have a the Pond Prowler they sell these at Bass Pro. IF they were going to be on sale I bet you just missed it. They did have a $100 kickback to open a Bass Pro CC though. Not sure there may be other deals.

I have yet another question. I've read many pages here but haven't seen this mentioned. I have my 10e stored in my 1 car garage on top of my 4x4 atv's. I want to store it hanging from the cross beams of my steel carport above my pick up. Anybody here store their boat by hanging it? And if so how? Thanks.

I have seen someone showcase a method of storing one in the air and I think it is in this thread but I have no idea what page, sorry.

Hi gang. I'm a new owner of a used Pond Prowler. I've read through most of this forum and it is fantastic. What a great community! What is  everyone using as their anchor? Just wondering what type, what size and how everyone is storing it in their "tub" considering our limited space. Thanks for any help or comments (or pictures)

There may be mentions in this thread, not sure, but there probably is somewhere on this forum... if you fish mostly shallow water, you can use a 'power pole' type of pole (except it's not powered, lol) that you push into the lake bottom and is secured to your boat. But you would be limited to pretty shallow water.

I personally use a 8lb, plastic coated mushroom anchor with 25ft of line for my 10e raider. I drilled/bolted/anchored 2 cleats into each of my seat frames and tie off the anchor to them. Never had a problem with the anchor slipping so far.

Google " DIY shallow anchor system" and you will get a lot of ideas of what people have used and how they made their systems. some pretty interesting ideas out there.

Currently I use the mushroom anchor I think its a 8lb as well its the one like they sell at Walmart. I just tie it off to the factory mounted cleats currently. I did see someone I think way back in this thread who had Lift and Lock Anchor Control brackets on their boat. They had one in the front and one in back. I want to add these as I think it would make it way easier than leaning over while trying to pull the anchor up. I have had several times it had got caught up pretty good and was no fun to pull that hard at the edge of the boat. Also you don't have to bring the anchor actually into the boat making a mess. And having one on each end I think will be real nice to slow or stop the boat from turning on ya.

I have one of these trailers and really like it. The one I got is 4 foot wide and 8 foot long and works great for my boat.  I believe my boat is right at 4 foot wide on the top side but it seems to narrow towards the bottom of the "pontoons".  However, my boat is older so the dimensions may not be the same as yours. The trailer pulls really well and is extremely light weight. It is a little tricky to back up since it is so short. I have considered putting a carpeted floor on it but if I'm using it strictly to haul my boat I figured what's the point. The boat sits on the cross rails just fine and I use ratchet straps to hold it down. I even mounted a Rubbermaid type box to the tongue area that holds my anchor and some other odds and ends.

My last mod for a while. Rod holder/anchor basket. Now I just need the weather to cooperate with my sced, next Saturday is looking good. I have been just bank fishing for the last few weeks

Nice mods.Looks like a really nice rig.

I've been looking at some on craigslist that I could take to small lakes that require electric only when I couldn't take out the Javelin, there is a 8ft and 10 ft. My bed in my ram 1500 is 5 1/2 ft long. Only thing I'm worried about is putting it in the bed by myself since I fish most by myself, do you think a trailer is necessary?

A trailer for me  but I'm not as young as I used to be

I have an 8 ft boat and without the trolling motor attached or the battery in, it is incredibly light and you would have no issues putting it in  and out of the bed of your truck by yourself.  This is how I started out.  I just found it a little time consuming waiting until I got to the water to put everything in, so I went ahead and bought a trailer.

I have the 10' and hauled it by myself in my truck bed all last season. It was ok, but you'll have to make a dolly to roll it down to the water. Even if you're only moving it 10 feet or so, you want to avoid scraping it up. The only reason I want a trailer is so I would be able to hit 2 lakes in a day. I can't do that with this set up. I not doing two launches and two load ins from the back of the truck, no way.

I'm looking for a jet ski trailer right now. They seem a little hard to come by, because most have the d**n jet ski with it

Do you plan on having this rod holder with the rods in the air in front of or behind you in the boat? Having them in the air would not work for me, we have too many trees in the water, but I'm curious, for more open lakes.

I am not exactly a strongman and I put mine in my truck by myself. But it isn't exactly a piece of cake. I get it done, though. Just pick up one corner end of it and slide it up to your tailgate. Then slide it over so it's square. Then pick up the back end and slide it in.

The rod holder is mainly for transport. I'll lay them down in front of me while fishing.

I devised a rope and hook to hold the boat in place for when I bring the boat up onto the tailgate so it doesn't roll backwards while I get behind it to lift it up. I'll post a pic if it works.

The worst part of using the truck bed, is the various inclines you find near the water at different lakes. At some lakes the tailgate is 2 ft higher then it is in my flat driveway. Sometimes its just easier to face the lake with the cab and walk the boat around to the back for loading. I definitely want a GD trailer..lol

I just started a new thread under The Bass boat forum. its called Bass Raider Meet Up. We are trying to get a mini bass boat meet up and fun tournament together in York Pa this May. If interested swing by the thread and post!
