UPDATE!!! SORRY EVERYONE but Photobucket wants me to spend 399 dollars to host my pictures...I just refuse to do that!  You can still check the pics out with this link: http://s709.photobucket.co

  • Picked up my bass raider 3 or 4 months ago and I absolutely love it.  I did a bunch of mods including a casting deck and the deck is rock solid.  It's 3x more stable on my deck than standing in some o

Thanks for the ideas guys. So coating the bottom is pretty much out of the picture then. Perhaps I overdid the "worn" hull. I mean it has alot of scraps but nothing appears to be too bad.

Usually Im loading/unloading it myself. The worst part of it is to get it from where I have to store it to the pickup is about 75ft of grass where I have to tilt it on to its side to fit through the gate.

I tend to park about 10ft up the ramp and then drag it the rest of the way, maybe Ill just try and get as close to the water as possible to reduce dragging.

Thank you guys again for your suggestions. If it would help I could get some pictures of the bottom and you guys could let me know if its anything I need to be worried about?

Try to epoxy these to the bottom. That should reduce drag a little bit. Hyfax-Large1.jpg

Runners for an otter sled. They'll get chewed up before the bottom of the boat. Also my buddies has used everything from bondo to JB weld to fix holes in their plastic boats.

Did you notice how thick the plastic is? Just approximately. I need 1/4 inch for the rivets to hold  the geartrac. So that would be the thickness of the  geartrac plus the thickness of the plastic combined. I might need a aluminium plate to act as a spacer if the plastic is too thin. just curious

I'd say it is thinner than a quarter inch

Come on guys, it's freezing here on the East Coast, everyone post a few pics of your boats to warm us up.  LoL.  Thanks.....

New member here from Baltimore. I just bought myself a new Pelican 10e today to take with me on camping trips. I didn't even know these great lil boats existed until i saw one yesterday listed on CL, that one was sold. Luckily a local Dick's had one in stock. I was considering a fishing kayak but as soon as i started reading this thread last night i had to have one. And my wife didn't mind because the Pelican was hundreds cheaper than the kayak i was gonna buy. Plus unlike the kayak she can go out on the lakes with me now, sometimes lol. My wife and I camp at state parks with our little Casita camper and a lot of the state park campgrounds have stocked lakes. At these campgrounds i see a lot of kayaks & conoe's, i'm surprised i've never seen one of these lil boats before. Thanks for having me, i have a bunch more reading to do here! I have pics but for some reason i can't post'em.

Hi, I'm in southern Md.  Curious of the price at Dicks.  Did you have to pay any shipping charges?  Shipping can sometimes be a killer, I believe these are manufactured in Canada.  Thanks

I bought mine at Dick's last spring. It was in stock but not on display. They have a spring boating sale in April. I got $100 off plus another 10% off for opening a credit card. The next month I got a $20 credit from their rewards program. Free tackle!  If you can wait for that sale, it's a good deal.

Wondering though if shipping is factored into the in-store price.  If I go to Dicks.com the boat is $699 plus $381 (gulp) shipping.  What did you guys pay for boats that are in stock at the store?  Thanks

In store so no shipping charges.. Cost $699. I looked online for a better price but a lot of seller's were "out of stock" and the shipping charges killed the deal for the ones in stock. Only one Dick's in Md. had one in stock. Luckily it was only 20min drive for me so i ran up and bought it yesterday morning. Little over $200 for shipping if i would've purchased online.

Do you guys know of any bow mount TM's with a foot pedal that will fit on one of these? I thought the MotorGuide Bulldog would, but it appears to be a transom mount with a foot pedal.

I want to get the 8' Sun Dolphin, but if I can't do a bow mount I don't want one.

Transom mount and bow mount are two types of mounting systems for TMs, not positions on the boat. I have both MK in the back (transom mount) and a MG Bulldog in the front (transom mount) of my Pelican 10e. I can also position the MK on the front end (bow) using the transom mount by unbolting the control head and rotating it 180 thus allowing the tiller control to face aft instead of fwd like it would when mounted in the rear (stern). I'm pretty sure your Sun Dolphin has both fore and aft transom mount areas allowing the TM to be secured to the boat in either position.

Hey guys, is a pelican bass raider 10e big enough to fit 2 people and gear comfortably? Also, what pound thrust TM should I get and is there good rod storage?

Yes it's big enough for 2 but use discretion on what you bring with you. The floor fills up fast with stuff and I am alone 90% of the time. I'm going to put some time and effort into modifying the boat to keep stuff off the floor. The rod storage kind of sucks. I'm not crazy about resting my rods unsecured on top of the pontoons 2" inches from going over the side.

For a motor I have a 45 lb Endura Max by Minnkota. It's a great motor and never even comes close to killing the 24 group battery. I go out from 5 to 7 hrs. If I could do it again I would go for the 55 lb and a little bigger battery but It's not really an issue. I'm very happy with my set up

I've found this style tackle box to work well with these boats.   Stows under your seat and you can slide out drawers without moving the box. I agree with the concern of placing rods on the sides of the boat.  I'm going to fashion some sort of retention device for both sides when I pick up my boat.  Perhaps 2 strips of Velcro on each wide with  a dab of 5200 in the middle to hold them down.   The last thing I would want would be to have a $600 rod/reel disappear into the darkness.   ;^)

One quick solution is to keep a bungee cord handy to hold down the rods if you rest them on the sides. Hook one side under the rub rail and the other side to your seat support. ;)

Yep, mine is exactly the same.

Greeting ready to pull the plug and get the boat.   I only need a bow mounted trolling motor and want a MinnKota Endura Max 55.   Do I want to 36" or 42" shaft?    36"  correct?

thanks

My Pelican 10e was just purchased and i haven't had it in the water yet, does anybody here row their pelican? If so what type/brand/lenght of oar do you recommend? After reading here a Minn Kota is in the future but i like the idea of rowing around the lakes where i camp for excercise. I wanna thank all you members for this thread and all the great info & pics, it's been very helpful for a new guy like me. Now back to reading this thread, i'm only on pg. 23!
