Chatterbait color for tea colored water?

Featured Replies

OK, what Chatterbait color would you guys recommend for tea colored water?

Black/Blue or White/Chartreuse. I fish dirty water the majority of the time and those colors work best for me.

Thanks Texas. I'll give em a shot Saturday.

Blue/white/chartreuse, golden hues work well too, and don't overlook natural colors either....natural forage still gets eaten in those lakes and isn't full of wild colors.

Black and blue

And white always works too

Slight change of plans, now going to a lake that it always relatively clear.  I would assume something on the more natural side??  Like a green pumpkin???

GP and bluegill shades are my usual go to colors for clear lakes.  Downsize maybe.  If there are shad or similar baitfish then a clear/ghost type if a good option at times.  The green back shad color was a go to for me 2 years ago (not sure why I got away from it).

My home lake has the exact same color you're talking about, it's actually tannic from all the leaves but I try to use green pumpkin bladed jigs when it's sunny and maybe black and blue or chartreuse for when it's overcast, here is a picture of a white megabass SV-3 I was testing recently and you can see the tannic acid in the water

My area has a lot of clear ponds but I love fishing a Chatterbait before it gets too hot. I’ve had a lot of success lately with the stealth blade in the clear water. I caught 12 LMB in about 90 minutes today using a green pumpkin 3/8 oz stealth blade with a Zman Redbone Razor Shad. It’s a beautiful combination…back of the redbone matches the GP skirt but adds some red flash. Bottom of the Redbone is a silver/white…gives me the ability to mimic anything from a blue gill to a crappie to a baitfish all in one presentation. Handful of bites on initial fall so made sure to have some pops to change the presentation angle throughout the retrieve.

I hate the SB for anything other than clear water but I like it a lot more than a swim jig in clear water (before it gets crazy hot).

I also like the mini max for clear water. I generally avoid Jackhammer as I think it’s a bit too much vibration in clear water.
