Rod guide..ceramic ring repair?

Featured Replies

Hello All..I thought this group might be able to help me.  I have an older Penn spinning rod where the ceramic ring has popped out of a line guide. What kind of repair would you recommend?  I was hoping to glue or epoxy back in place but I'm not sure what would type works best.  Tx Greg

It is possible to glue it back in, but might not work.  Worth a try; I have one 25mm guide I fixed a few  years ago and it's still OK.  I used rodbuilding epoxy, but a quality epoxy adhesive from the hardware is worth a try.  I don't think you have anything significant to lose by trying.  Be sure to keep the ID clean of epoxy.  If it hardens in there it can be tough to remove.  Use alcohol to clean up uncured epoxy.  Most use denatured alcohol.

I think most builders will say don't bother.

Tx....I was just trying to avoid having to replace entire guide.  I don't use the rod often, and I'm getting lazy as I get older.  Greg

I've glued back a couple of rings and they are still there after 10 years.  I use flexible glue of the goop type.

As said, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  Epoxy it in and if it doesn't hold, get the guide replaced.
