River Safety

We have been getting lambasted with big rains and localized flooding over the last few days. Rain is much needed for the area but Severe damage from straight line winds and hail hurt some areas. I dodged a bullet here somehow. Suppose to start again later. I’m sure the river will be in a tailspin for a few days or more.  But living close to the river I always stop pass the ramp to see how things are. Cricks and creeks seem to recover real quickly. River will be turbid.

I hope you guys to the south of us are ok and safe. Your severe weather is generally wider spread and more damaging. The home front is more important than any bass.

River is in poor condition. Not at flood stages but high, dirty and debris. Major rains within a few hours now.  Lake area has been hammered real hard also. But should be fishable sooner than later.

I would love for the susky to go up pretty good. I think it’s only projected to get around 4ft so far on the Harrisburg gauge and 2.9 in wilkesbarre.  The floating debris will make it very sketchy and being low stuff can catch on the bottom much easier.

Be careful on there dude. I’ll do the lake on Thursday AM. Will be a mess there also but over the years I’ve pulled off some nice greenies fishing bank brush that get flooded some. Safety is my first thoughts but I try to be optimistic that I can pull off that nice one.

I am not headed out today. I won’t be out till the weekend. I’d love for a good rain to put it up to about the 10-12 foot then as it’s going down hit it around 6-8 ft mark.

I’m pulling off some back to back to back mornings. Been a struggle. Catching, but not like I thought it would be. Had my mind made up that higher lake water would have pushed some nice fish up into shore line brush and into Lilly Pads along with Bluegill. Not seeing a lot of baitfish activity. Lake conditions are nice, slight stain and level is up. Was able to crank up two yesterday 1 1/2 - 2 lb. fish. This morning was a bust. Major disappointment. I didn’t throw a dang thing that wasn’t a proven fish catcher. I guess that why this game is called fishing and not catching. I think tomorrow I’ll concentrate on only a few baits. Cover area but cover it show. Jigs, Grubs and tubes. Real slow. And deeper.

It’s been a weird year for fishing for me. I hope to be out on the susky tomorrow.

I’ll start to get into some type of a rhythm. Soon I hope. I never use to think bass fishing was much of a mental game. But I can be.

We haven't had much rain but the river is clouded up a little anyway. Still pretty low and still fairly clean. We just had a short rain move through but I'm going to give it a try anyway.

By the end of this coming week I’ll be installing a lift at my buddies place on the Lower Chesapeake Bay. Will be trying for some tidal bass. Last fall when I was down, water was in good shape and caught everything going in that brackish. On artificials. Not all in the same spot but close proximity. Largemouths, white perch, croakers, weakfish, and flounder. Lost a few with a heavy hit, may have been catfish or drum. Not sure. Was surprised catching those saltwater fish. The salinity at my buddies place in not that high.

Sorry thread got a bit off topic. I know a lot of you guys through the south have gotten hammered real bad. Unreal hail to go along with it.  Stay safe. A lot of times what I see through these storms here is nothing compared to the magnitude you all have to go through. Straight line wind damage is a fear here. We have had a couple tornadoes close the last few years. Took awhile for those folks to pull it together. Fishing is great and fun but can’t be much fun if your life is in shambles.

I’ve fished around havre de grace and nailed good smallies there
