I was wondering how you guys determine the halfway point when spooling new line...

I have 100ms of 12lb Fluoro and want to split it up 50/50 so I can spool my reel twice (Capacity: 100m 12lb). How can I find the halfway point?? Should I calculate the distance as in meters per turn of the handle or something??

Something that would get me roughly to the halfway point is Ok.....

just measure your arm spread (in feet) with a tape (then divide into 150') and pull off 50 yds of the old line and tie a connection loop on the backing.

It's best to measure by taking off the old line... the capacity they state is for a specific diameter... which may vary from your 12# line.

What should I do if.... My Old line has less than 50... I had a bad day last time casting into the wind and managed a few overruns.. I couldn't undoe it so I just cut the line and fished on. Result is the spool visible when I make a long cast.

Should I just forget the idea of saving half this time and just fill the spool up with all the new line? I guess I can save half the next time.

All sunline come with a half way mark.   It is a great line but expensive.
