Senko for trout?
My experiance is based on Stocked Trout and will be vastly different when fishing for the smarter type... I use 2in Senko's (Also knockoffs) on Rainbows up to around 16in. Works well wacky rigged. Just cast where they are and let it sink. Works well when they just don't hit any spoons, spinners, or jerkbaits. Again, the stocker trout are pretty dumb.....

shorefishing dropshots
YOu'll need a lot of them weights.... I fish from the bank only, and dropshotting in rocky terrain isn't all too fun....

Lucky Craft shallow cranks
Hey great insight on those cranks Natural!!! Topic has already been bookmarked for future referance Do all these LC cranks have rattles?? Or is it only the moonsault series?? I personally am looking around for silent types. Those ultra noisy moonsault cranks don't work in high pressure enviroments...

MegaBass lures worth the MegaPrice?
Keep it on our terms!! ;D In Japan we frequently use Sammy 65s and 85s.... Sledom do we use 100s or 115s... so a 3.9in "Giant" Dog-X is in fact, still... Giant... In relative terms

Anyone have a contact in Japan?
Hi. I live in Japan as Raul stated. The problem is, there is a huge shortage of B'Freeze (Pointer) and I have never seen a 100SP over here... If I'm lucky to find a couple of them in stores, there are usually only 2 colors hanging off the racks. I'm not sure which one, it's some kind of ghost black & blue?? All Japanese online shops are out of stock right now as well. I was just thinking of ordering from BPS a couple of Pointers as they are so hard to find. I'll keep an eye open for your colors though. I might be able to find a couple of Staysees. If you can get in contact with GInrinpeche I bet you'll be better off with him than me. GL!

Pond fish behaviour
Fishingrulz - Interesting you point out the fish will be there and not spook, but won't use their mouth. I've had a lot of bass eat up 4in Grubs and French Fries right in front of me. In fact, when the fishing gets tough, I walk around the pond looking for Bass armed with a plastic worm on a weightless plastic presentation. I dangle it in front of the fish and they often take it. Though not certain, I am convinced they are in fact biting, and not just being aggressive and banging up the lure as many times the hook is buried deep in the mouth. Maybe I should get a couple of Mattlure's Bluegill swimbaits and see how the bass respond. Might be interesting.

Hooksets: Jigs and Worms
I'm using 100% Fluro which should be enough to keep the line stretch equation out. I really need to get bit more often to practice my hooksets... lol

Pond fish behaviour
I think that explains why the Bass behave sooo differently..... Time to come up with new strategies!!! 8-)

X-Raps Change hooks?
OK Thanks!! I just found them today. Had to drive an hour through heavy traffic to get one. Hard to get them over here It looks nice and I was able to pick up a few Pointers as well so that justifies the headaches from driving in the hard rain. I just can't wait 'til spring!! ;D

X-Raps Change hooks?
Do you guys change the hooks on the X-Raps?? I hear lots of people change the hooks on Rapalas as they aren't as sharp and rust easily. Is this the same for the hooks on the X-Rap? I am betting here that the newer X-Raps come with a better quality hook....

Hooksets: Jigs and Worms
Ok. Gotcha thanks. I'll be practicing my Jigs a lot next year though. Hope I'll get better at this 8-)

Jackall Flap Clicker.
Kinda OT but... I have one of those as well. It has a bad reputation here in Japan. Not many are having success with it ;D Many report the bass spooking. Maybe the sound is too loud..

Hooksets: Jigs and Worms
Less aggressive = Skin hooked?? Maybe I should give the wrist snap a try and see if it suites me better. I guess it all depends on the equipment and preferance...

Bass lures for trout?
I've had great success targeting stocked trout on light tackle and 2 to 3in worms. Senkos and Grubs. Mostly fish in the 12in~ range.

Situation
Do Catfish pull like that too?? I'm not aware of any catfish where I fish but.... Thank god I didn't snap my rod... ;D

Hooksets: Jigs and Worms
I'll keep an eye on slack line next time I'm out... Even after reading all these suggestions I always overlook something : Thanks. Oh the ML is used for finesse worms using 5lb Fluro and 2~4in stuff. Sometimes a 2in Senko is all the Bass will bite....

Situation
Need some guesses as to what I hooked yesterday!!! I was fishing a Jig - Worm using a 4in GYCB Grub and was dragging it along the bottom. I got a hard whack so I set the hook sharply. I felt something really heavy on the line but was about to call it a snag when it suddenly started running. It kept on running deeper and deeper. I was using MH tackle and 12lb Fluro line and a Daiwa Millionaire BC. The drag kept on letting go.....I didn't gain an inch on him ;D It threw the hook before I got to see him. Any guessing what fish would pull like that?? Do Carp sometimes attack worms?? Koi (Carp), Trout - Snagged in tail, Bass?? Wish I could have gotten a look at it...

Hooksets: Jigs and Worms
I got my first fish on a Jig-Trailer yesterday with a 1/2 oz White football head and a 4in GYCB Grub. Bounced and dragged it along the bottom and felt a nibble and whacked him hard ;D Problem is, Once I landed him and checked where the hook went through, I was shocked to see it didn't actually punch through the mouth. It was actually only holding on to the soft tissue inside the mouth and didnt penetrate. I must've been pretty close to losing him Come to think of it, many of my hooksets fail to punch the hook through the mouth. After watching LBH's video abouyt hooksets I practiced a bit and got it down. But still about half of my hooksets are just holding on to the soft tissue of the inside of the mouth and is quite easy to take the hook out. Any suggestions for getting the hook to punch through?? I'm using an 6'3 MH rod for Jigs and T-rigs and a 6'3 ML for Finesse worming. Both on 100% Fluro. I only use new Owner and Gamakatsu hooks and throw them out once I'm done. I'm having problems on both. Worse with heavier tackle and bigger hooks....

Tuning Suspending Jerkbaits
Here it is. O.S.P "Asura" It's a Japanese lure. http://www.f-s-itami.co.jp/tkxdoc/goods_img/OSP-AS-J.jpg I'll try chucking them in cold water. See how it goes 8-)

Fishing Long-Billed Jerkbaits
I'll try the suggestions above. Thanks guys!!! I have to try fishing them along steep banks. That sounds great.

Tuning Suspending Jerkbaits
Right. I threw them in my bathtub filled with warm water but they still sink..... It sinks pretty darned fast for a SP Jerkbait!!! ;D Not fast enough for a Sinking Jerkbait, but somewhere in between.... Maybe a tad slower than a 4in Weightless Senko. 3 out of 3 bought sink.... I have gone to other forums and asked around but many consider the slow-sinking to be a feature. Not a problem..... I hear the baitmonkey knocking on my door yet again now....

Tuning Suspending Jerkbaits
The problem is, it seems like they are designed to be slow sinkers but are labeled "Suspend". Only found this out after looking around the Japanese forums for info about this lure. I should have read these threads before I bought them.... All of these Jerkbaits are slow-sinkers. There is a floating version as well but I don't have any of them. Would it be easier to weigh down a floating bait to suspend than to take some weight off a sinker to make it suspend?? These are still kick-arse lures though. Very good action and I've had a lot of success with them. I just wished they'd suspend properly. Besides, I didnt notice they didnt suspend properly until I got one snagged. Seems like I stopped the lure too long and it got stuck on the bottom. ;D
