Who uses a Phenix Feather MH and H rod????

Featured Replies

I have a L and ML Feather that I love. Might want to try a heavier rod in this line. The reviews are all over the place on TW. The weight ratings aren't helping me out much. If you use these 7'1" Feathers what's your opinion on them?

Thx

i built a 7'1 mh and the 7'7 heavy. the 7'1 i use for jerkbaits and walking the dog stick baits.

the 7'7 heavy is rated 1/4 - 2 oz but starts feeling overloaded with anything over 1 oz to be able to work a jig and still have control otherwise great rods

I have the 7' Heavy. I consider this as an all around rod. The weight rating for it is misleading. I did compare to a MH, which felt more like a medium action to me. The heavy action is more to me a medium heavy with a wider range for lure weight. I've casted lure just above 1 oz and it casted them well. Also lure around 3/8oz and above.

I do own the Feather in 7'1" Light and as mentioned in heavy.

Wait a couple more weeks when TW has their 15% off sale.

i have the 7'1" Heavy.    it has a 200K Shimano on it.

i know a MagDraft freestyle pushes the weight limit on it, but i keep at it. its a bit noodlely at the cast.  :D fighing a fish is fun.  i use it for big heavy jigs and swim jigs.  this is honestly the next rod i am replacing.  the reel seat allows the reel to move.  i can feel it do so, when i cast heavier stuff, or fight a better fish.  i know it isnt a big deal, but i feel it.    the rod is perfectly fine, but for some reason i never totally warmed up to it.

LOL I have a 7'7" MH/F and a 7'1" H/F.

IMHO, find they fish a half step lower than their power rating when compared to other rods I have.

Would you say it's anything like a 4 power Dobyns, or MH Loomis MBR in regards to power?

Of course if you have any to compare it with.

Think the heavy would be good for 1/2oz jigs, I usually use a Loomis 844 for 1/2oz jigs/swim jigs?

It would be Great w 1/20z plus trailer.

I have the MH, H, and XH.

MH is the equivalent of a M+ (Heavy side of Medium)

H is the equivalent of MH+ (Heavy side of Medium Heavy)

XH is the equivalent of H+  (Heavy side of Heavy).

They named them "Feathers", and they are indeed light.  I think the lack of weight creates the illusion that they are grossly underpowered which is not the case.  I have muscled them out of the mats at the San Joaquin Delta and as well as dragged them across the tops of those same mats when I fished the other side of them where my boat is  positioned.

The only Dobyns rod I own is the Fury 806 swimbait rod which is a couple steps up in power from a 4 power, and although that rod is supposedly a heavy/fast action rod, I disagree with the 'fast' part. It's more of a mod, or maybe a mod-fast. Definitely not fast. I think that the action of that rod is kind of a one-off compared to their traditional lineup of casting rods.

I do often check out Dobyns rods in the local shop and they seem just a tad light on their power ratings, but not quite as much as the Feathers I own. But I haven't fished with them, so I wouldn't know for sure.
