Daiwa Tatula SV TW 70 & Daiwa Alphas SV TW 800 Question

Featured Replies

I do own the Tatula SV TW 70 in left hand. Just curious if the Alpha SV TW 800 use the same frame as the SV TW 70, or are they 2 different reels.

Since having the SV TW 70, not sure if adding a SV TW 800 in left hand will be beneficial if both reels are very similar but with differences.

I have both and can say if they aren't the same exact frame, they are very close. I will say the Alphas has a free floating spool and the Tatula SV70 has a shaft on the spool. The Alphas is smoother, but the difference isnt huge.

Thank you for the reply FrnkNsteen. You saved me from spending unnecessarily. The differences you said doesn't justify another Daiwa reel at this time. Thank you

No problem! Remembered I had taken a couple pictures for someone else. Here are some side by side images of the two.

Thank you for the pics. Besides some differences, the 2 reels are identical in frame. Ya, I'll sit tight on thr Alpha SV TW.

Although the Alphas has a dual supported pinion gear and floating spool, it's a brass/aluminum mixed gears combo, which MAY result in early "geary" feel. Both mine and my buddy's developed similar feels within one season, while the all aluminum gears of Zillion are still as smooth as new.

I have two Alphas 800 reels that have been fished hard for two seasons, and are smooth as can be. They have been great reels for me. All of my Zillions have been killer too. Wonder what happened to your reels? Were you keeping them lubed?

Nothing special happened to my Alphas; I just used it normally. And I actually deep cleaned and re-greased it in mid-season. I think my buddy did the same to his reel as well. Like I said, it MAY get geary, depending on many factors, but I do believe the mixed gears is one of them.

I too have the alphas and have fished it hard for two years. Smooth as butter. I’ve thrown everywhere from 12lb flouro for jerkbait to 65lbs braid punching. Bolt a 100mm handle to it and you have a little powerhouse
