tying on a spinner bait

Featured Replies

after watching some of the fishing shows on VS i decided to try a spinner bait so i went to a bass pro shop and bought one but forgot to ask how to tie it on the line never used one before and im a newbie at using  a lure like this always used live bait wanted to try something different...  :exclamation

Spinnerbaits have either a wire loop in the bend of the shaft or more commonly an small open bend in the same spot.  If you're using the more common open bend just tie into the bend.  I use an improved clinch knot.  Be aware that if you use a snap, it will frequently ride up or down the shaft and foul the action so I don't reccomend using a snap with this lure.

I tie a hangman's noose.  The more pull, the tighter the knot.  It doesn't slip on the arm.

I suggest that you just use a palomar knot.  I use this knot 100% of the time for any bait that I use.

I must support the Palamor knot.

Although you have to be careful to have the loop clear the entire spinnerbait, it is a great knot to use.

Just make sure the loop is large enough to pass the spinnerbait through it.
