New to North Carolina

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I just moved to North Carolina, and am located near Burlington. I do not have a boat, but am looking to get a kayak soon. Of the lakes around here, which is the best suited for bank fishing? I went out this morning to Stoney Creek since its nearby, but didn't catch anything.  Wanting to check out Mackintosh in the next couple of days as well. Thanks for any info and looking forward to meeting some of you out on the water! Tight lines.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Howdy from Grover NC.   I've got an Uncle that lives in Burlington, but I'm not familiar with the lakes around there.

Mackintosh, Cammack, and Graham-Mebane are all close by. They are not big lakes and not open all the time but fishing I've heard is good. They are all city reservoirs I think.

Hello from Winston Salem. The furthest east I get is probably High Rock so no help there. I did really well at Falls Lake by Raleigh but that was probably 6 years ago.

Welcome @calvin18!

Sounds like we're about neighbors 😎

From the bank I'd probably target local ponds. Lower pressure and easier to cover most of the water. I do see people catch bass from the pier at the Guilford mackintosh Marina but that's not my deal. It's only open certain days and hours so check the website before going. I think they charge $3 to fish there. The lake gets a lot of pressure but has big fish in it. You can also rent a kayak when weather warms up, or rent a Jon boat any time but you'll need a trolling motor (FB market, $150 should do it).

The above poster is correct, cammack is known to be a decent fishery and Graham Mebane also. You could also try haw river, there are accesses all over the place.

I'm West of Burlington and occasionally visit Greensboro City lakes also (Townsend, Brandt, Higgins). You can rent kayaks and Jon boats at those 3 also. Those are @Pat Brown Territory and he catches some hogs on a regular basis.

For quantity, head north to hyco. You can catch spots all day up there. Hope that helps!

MacIntosh looks amazing and I'm planning to fish it some in the spring!  That's pretty close to you I believe and they have lots of ways you can fish.  The river systems and creeks are all really good around here too (Pee Dee/Tar River/Cane Creek reservoir)

If you make the trek out this way: Randleman, Belews, Higgins, Brandt, Townshend and a variety of small pressured ponds await!  There's big ole bass everywhere round here as far as I can tell!  They're smart but that's half the fun 😉

Welcome to BR!

Thanks @Pat Brown and @FishTax!! Appreciate the input. Going to try and get around to all these lakes in due time.
