I found this blast from the past in some of my grandfather’s stuff. He’s the one who got me into fishing and I still use some of his lures, including an original hand-carved Big O. I stumbled across these today. He died in 1977 and was infirm for several years before, so these are probably no younger than 1972. I can’t decide whether to fish with them or just keep them as a memento.

 

 

I'd retire the Big O and fish the worms.

I grew up fishing the Creme worms but I'd have to keep those intact in the package. I just really like stuff like that. They still make 'em (maybe not those colors, but...) and I'd just buy some new ones. 

Keep those as a remembrance of your grandpa.  Keep em in the boat for luck!!  

Agreed.... Keep them in the pack and hang them on a wall next to a picture of him so you see it often and remember.

I bought a bunch of 6" purple from Bass Pro Shops last year. Easy to fish with. Don't have to flog the water with them and you can enjoy the scenery and just feel the line.

Great idea. I already had the picture hung, I just had to add the worms.

Find a small shadow box for that Big-O, or one of those acrylic cubes for autographed baseballs might work as well. Start yourself a collection of family fishing memorabilia. I have a shelf in my office that is covered with framed fishing pics of my father, brother, sons, and myself. It gives me a lot of joy to look up at them from time to time and remember all of those days on the water. One of my pride and joy items is an old candy jar full of corks and bobbers I have picked up floating on the water of picked out of trees.
