Looking for a reel handle. - Scorpion Metanium MG

Featured Replies

A buddy is looking to get a Shimano Scorpion Metanium MG knob. The knob screws into the reel handle. This is a 20 year old reel so this may be tough to track down.20240126_154454_compress71.jpg.69c0904a30dfc7c6585a22aa70d597ad.jpg20240126_154527_compress53.jpg.3b2ac80af873e361c1f4adbd884b2d4c.jpg

This handle is proving to be a tough one to acquire.

before we could make a recommendation, we would need to see the reel with the handle removed.

I didn't post pictures because he would really like a stock replacement. A modern handle would not work due to this design. The handle goes on the outside of the nut.

Looks like standard Shimano 4x7, with a half-nut (?) that removes the handle foot.

Any Shimano 4x7 handle, or a Daiwa/Abu handle with a rectangular spacer will fit there.

He'll also need a new Shimano 7-mm cap nut,

and the retaining washer/screw that fits the cap nut should come with the handle.  The handle will come with a keyed washer that fits on the shaft behind the handle.

Showing this Tica, because it's also 4x7-mm Shimano-size shaft.  7-mm cap nut (they're all 10-mm hex-head).

He can use an 8x5-mm Abu/Daiwa handle with a spacer like below, and some handles come with this for "universal" fit

doesn't have to be a jigging handle, that's just the handy examples.

People put modern drag stars and or handles on older reels all the time.

Agreed,... I just bought a clean old Shimano 201E7 for cheap at the local tackle shop swap meet that they had during their annual fishing expo.

I got it home and pulled it apart to give it a good cleaning and when reassembling, I noticed the handle was worn and rocked forward and back on the shaft. I order a cheap carbon fiber aftermarket handle that came with the spacer @bulldog1935 showed above and fixed the issue.

Put it on a Levante Diablo Spec to throw spinnerbaits and it's awesome now!!

I'd go with a 90 mm D series handle for a straight handle upgrade that still looks period but you can also can go nuts.  This D7 has a 13 met handle and knobs on it.

Where do you get these spacers? I have a gomexus handle for a daiwa that I want to use on a Shimano
