Now this is kinda odd...

Featured Replies

Started fishing with 10lb braid the other day (no leader) and I've always been a fan of the split shot rig. Went fishing yesterday with size 7 and size 5 split shots on my spinning reel set-ups and lost 3 split shots on different casts. They were pinched down as hard as I could get them with a pair of pliers. This has never happened with the same set-ups and using mono. Any idea? The first time it happened, I thought it was just a fluke and it wasn't crimped tight enough. The rest were tightly crimped and still came off somehow.

Thanks!

Try crimping the shot on the end of your line, then slide it up and down to around 10" or 12" . Then move the shot where you need it and tie on your hook. This creates a small groove in the split shot, and you can crimp it on without damaging your line. I learned this from WRB.                    Or use a sliding sinker with a Peg It. You could use a bullet weights, or one of the cylinder style weights. Both can work.

when I used split shot with braid I always wrapped the braid around the shot before crimping. Lay the line through the jaws and take one end and loop it around the back and through the jaws again then crimp. Never lost a weight.
