Possible to attach bait clicker to Abu Gar Reel?

Featured Replies

I have an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5500 C3 Baitcast Reel. The larger 6500 model comes with a bait clicker, but my version doesn't. So is it possible to attach a bait clicker to my reel myself? Can you point me in the direction of where I could get one? Id appreciate your help. Thanks

Welcome to the forums.  Sounds like a question for Reel Mech

The bait clickers on the 6500 are built into the palm plate end of the reel.  I don't know of anyway to add a clicker or for that matter, take the parts from a 6500 and put them on a 5500. Cost wise, it'd be just as cheap to buy yourself a 6500 reel.  You can easily find good condition 6500's on Ebay for around $40-50 most anytime.

Ok,

A couple of ways to do this. Both require purchases, are your pockets ready. First go find a scrap 6500C3 and take the side plate and the clicker assembly with bushings. Now transfer that to the left side of your 5500C3.

OR

You will have to purchase brand new, a left side plate for a 6500C3 (because it contains the slider switch assembly and level wind idler gear), then you will have to purchase the clicker plate assembly and bushings for a 6500C3 and add that to your 5500C3.

To make a long post shorter there is no easy cheap way to convert reels, and cart7 said it

Tight lines!!!

My husband and I do a lot of fishing (mainly cat fishing) and he alone has a pretty incredible Abu Garcia collection, from a Abu Garcia 5000 to a Abu Garcia 7000C3 catfish special... along with many Abu Garcia Pro Rockets! Now, most of his reels have bait clickers built in, I think all but his 5000 model... he is wanting to install a bait clicker on that reel if that is possible to do so! If anyone out there knows that It can be done and knows how to install a bait clicker to a Abu Garcia 5000, plz reply back to my msg... if u are unable to reply to this msg for whatever reason, you can find us on messenger under Terry N Vicky Bright! TIA

I'm not sure about bait clickers to the actual reel, but you can attach aftermarket audible bite indicators to the rod. Some make noise and some light up in addition to making noise. The line runs through them and when the like starts moving through them or pressure is put against the mechanism, they signal the bite. You can search "Strike Indicator" on Ebay and get tons of hits.
