Frog Dock Skipping suggestions

Featured Replies

Anyone do any dock skipping with frogs? I'm pretty skilled with skipping jigs, senkos, flukes, etc but am having trouble skipping my BOOYAH popping pad crashers. I've heard people having better luck with SPRO Bronzeyes and Strike King Sexy Frogs "since they are flatter and weigh more". Can anyone attest to those skipping better who are more experienced? Or any tip for skipping frogs around that might differ from other lures.

I wonder if the 'popper' is the issue, catching the water, and if a walking frog would do better? Not too much to skip under around where I fish outside of some brushy banks, but I can skip a frog ok. I'll be out throwing a pad crasher in the next 24 hrs, not popping version, and will see if my memory is correct that it'll skip ok. If you can skip a jig ( I struggle), I'd think you could a frog though.

Try the old, pull 40' of line off the spool and put tape down over the rest trick.

Should make skipping the frogs easier. And try the non popping ones, they (poppers) will catch water and stop the skip.

The $1 Walmart frogs skip decent enough under docks.

On a side note, I hear that skipping a jig is one of the harder things to skip from others? That's what I learnt skipping on, found it easier than most lures I tried when I started.

Put some plastic beads inside the body. It will give you weight without sinking it. Also adds a little rattle.

Cupped mouth and tails are your issue.  Use a more traditional pointy frog and trim those tails off for skipping 😎👍🏼🐸🤫🎣

Another super sneaky tip:

When skipping a frog under trees - just use a slightly beefier spinning rod with lighter braid (20-25 lb).

You'll do just fine.

I tested skipping a pad crasher this morning and it worked like a charm. To me they are more forgiving because they bounce off the water from being hollow. I'd say just get out there and practice with it, and I bet you get it down in 10 min.
