Where to go in FL in December?

Featured Replies

Looking for suggestions for somewhere to go for a few days in Florida in December.  I doubt we will drag the boat with us, so somewhere with nice rentals on the water would be ideal.  My son and I would want to fish, but it would be nice to be close to some family activities too so my wife can enjoy the trip.

So many options for you.

How many days will you be down here?
Do you want bass/ freshwater only or maybe some saltwater?
Crappie will be going strong. Bass may be finicky when a cold front comes through.

Cold weather doesn’t affect saltwater fish that much.  In fact certain species will be better that time of year.

Weather will always play a factor in December.
What area of Florida are you looking at?

We will want to bass fish, and will probably be around for a week or so. As for an area, that is wide open for us, but I had considered Okeechobee.  I know there isn’t a shortage of good fishing down there. I hate to be so vague, but knew I would get some good input.

Okeechobee,Headwaters,Stick Marsh,Garcia,...........plus the rest of the state for that time of year..

Crypt has the best suggestions.  I might throw Orange lake in there too but it’s up around Gainesville. If you were to stay around Ft. Pierce area you could hit all Crypt mentioned. I’m not sure if there’s much for the ladies besides the beaches and the water is going to be chilly that time of year.

Headwaters in Fellsmere is probably your best bet but renting a boat is a problem, however guides are available but not cheap. Okeechobee (Roland Martins Marina) has rentals and lodging food etc.

Lake Toho has boat rentals $50.00 an hour or so, guides lodging and is just south of Orlando. Personally I would look @ Toho and get a guide for a few days.

Look up Palm Bay Outfitters.  They rent fully rigged bass boats by the day for Headwaters and Stick Marsh.

They are on FB as well.

Hire a  guide and you have a good chance at double digit and/or PB.
