I finally did it!

Most of my hook penetrations are not from fish putting them in me while lipping.  It’s much more an idiot at work..  It‘s me trying to rip out a treble hook bait from the weeds using power and the strength of the rod bend.  Stupidity at its finest!

This might be an unpopular opinion, but posts like this one and countless others really make me want to debarb all my hooks and lures. Its bad enough to get hooked, but then dealing with the barb, try

  • I always have lip grippers with me just in case lipping the fish looks dubious. One of the best purchases I’ve made. Just makes the catch and release process much smoother.

Had to rescue my brother one day. We were bank fishing a local river and I discovered him holding a smallie to his cheek.       And after he healed I was remorseless.

Yeah, I've had a couple floppers with a hook in me.

When they are trashing around, the priority changes real fast to getting  them unhooked first. Haha Then work on getting yourself unhooked

Get a FISH GRIPPER! They are so useful and have saved me from a few bad situations. I never leave home without one.

I went to launch my boat last week and there were five guys circled around another with a crankbait stuck in his hand. One treble was in his middle finger and the other in his palm. Three of them tried in vain to push the finger hook through and cut the barb so they could work on the one is his palm.  I took my side cutters and cut both trebles off of the bait and had both hooks out in a short while. Used the braid hook removal.  I would possibly have not intruded, but they were blocking the ramp.

On average, I would pull trebles out of my hands a couple of times a season, I fish a lot of cranks. Now it's a Boga Grip with any treble hooked fish.
