Pier fishing

Featured Replies

I bought a kastking set up for pier fishing, which I'm new to, need to get it lined and rigged up. Any suggestions of hook size and type, sinker size, and line type and size?

Was also thinking pier fishing meant salt water but wasn't sure.

If salt water..... I'm not a resource. Lol

Salt water pier?

Depends on what type of fish you are trying catch… lots of options.

Can you add reel and rod numbers?

I've got a kastking rekon reel paired with a crixus 7ft mh rod. Not targeting anything specific, it's gonna be somthing to do on my nights off, not trying to tempt the swamp puppies I'd normally be around during the day, so pier fishing is my next best option.

Fill it with 25# Berkley Big Game mono,

Dropper rig with 2 iz sinker baited with shrimp or fresh fish chunk.

Be aware that rays and sharks are nocturnal so make sure your rod is secured,

Thanks for the info, I figure I'll be holding my rod the entire time I couldn't see a need to set it down unless the bite is super slow.

Pier fishing is a thing here in the Great Lakes.  Right now guys are pulling Chinook and coho salmon from the piers on the West coast of the state.  On the East coast, it'll be Atlantic salmon, steelhead, lake trout, and burbot in another couple of months.  We do a lot of things here that many saltwater folks would be accustomed to, just different fish in the sweet water.
