Shimano DC reels

Featured Replies

I got my first DC reel. A JDM Curado 200 DC. I've had Curados for a while. I like to service my own reels, and I use a few drops of bantam oil on the centrifugal brass brake in the cover.

However I noticed from the factory the magnetic brass housing on the DC reel has grease on it. Not the part on the spool, but the housing on the cover. I'm wondering if I should clean it off and just use a few drops of oil like on a normal reel. Grease would limit the casting distance wouldn't it?

In a DC reel there is no mechanical contact between the spool and brake surface. The grease you mention is strictly for corrosion resistance.
