I use XT in 14# and 17# primarily, and on occasion go to 10# 12# or 20# for certain lakes. I keep a MG50 spare spool with 50#braid in the glovebox but have never had it on. I like spiderwire xxx mono (green box) and suffix mono in the winter.

The reasons are pretty basic... I fish lots of rock & submerged timber (much of it is mesquite) and XT is about the best in terms of abrasion resistance and durability. We have to constantly cut and retie so we re-spool quite regularly and XT isn't very expensive either. I also have to break it when hung and the fact that it's mono I can still break it on demand. The only drawback I really have to put up with is memory. But it's so warm here that memory isn't an issue for 8-9 months of the year. In the cold weather, it becomes very stiff and is like the older, metal slinky.

Oh, and on my spinning reels I use suffix or spiderwire xxx mono, just in lighter #'s.

The most important feature I like about Ultra Soft is low memory, virtually NO MEMORY IN USE.
