I was gifted this old girl a while back, and after some oil, cleaning, and some casting in the yard, she casts pretty good. I've fished with it some, but ain't caught anything when using it. I plan to though, give it at least one last hoorah. Does anyone know what year range this was from? I couldn't find anything about it when searching. Was it like.. top of the line when new, or was it a budget reel or what? What is graphite bearings?

 

 

 

 

 

Oh, my boy who is 4, about to be 5, LOVES it. He is learning to use a baitcaster with it. He can cast some of the time without backlashing. So far, we haven't had to cut the line off, just get dads help to untangle it. He's learning the art of removing a backlash too.

Anyone have an idea on age? My boy is still learning by the way. He's getting pretty good at picking backlashes out.

I would guess mid to late 80's.

 

Early 80's were models like the SM2 and PMF 1000 and PMF 1500 (among others). They clearly look different than the next generation like yours.

 

I had a set of four Procaster PT ZX (2 @ PT 10 ZX and 2 @ PT 15 ZX) reels from around that era. 

I have a pm10s Daiwa, try to resize the pictures to post.

I tried it, not bad reel, but it’s right handed.

That's the reel I learned on when I was 9. Back in those days it was nearly impossible to get a left handed reel, I think Bass Pro had fewer than 10 in the whole catalog.

It was a good thing learning baitcast RHW, spinning LHW back when this was the only way these reels were offered.  

It keeps the casting habits for each technique in different arms.  If more people learned this way, and didn't bring their spinning habits to baitcaster, backlash wouldn't be such a major topic on the forum.  

(same thing goes for fly rod, while your rod arm controls timing, you load and feel the rod load in your line hand)

Advertised from 1987-1990. It was a low end reel, usually selling for around $29.99 and often sold as a combo with a composite rod. It had a 4.7:1 gear ratio and featured Autocast, which was their one-hand casting thumbbar feature. There was also an MA10G size.
