Bazoo Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Some time back I saw someone post a fish and a list of the gear used to catch it, which included a lure that had hand tied split rings using braided line in place of the metal split rings. I think it would change the sound of a crankbait, and that might be beneficial. I've been giving this some thought. Would anyone like to share if you've done this and why? What kind of knot did you use? Quote
Solution HB Dink Master Posted July 27, 2024 Solution Posted July 27, 2024 Soft split ring knot by Uribe's tackle box watch this video: Quote
Bazoo Posted July 27, 2024 Author Posted July 27, 2024 Thanks. I had no idea it was a thing, and I didn't know how to search for it. When I searched soft split ring I started getting some results. Quote
Bazoo Posted July 27, 2024 Author Posted July 27, 2024 Found this awesome Ott Defoe video. He really shows the knot well. Quote
Super User Bankc Posted August 16, 2024 Super User Posted August 16, 2024 I've done it a good bit. Mostly because I didn't have an appropriately sized split ring available and needed one. It works pretty well. I've heard some people say that it's supposed to help keep the bass from gaining leverage and throwing the bait. I don't know if it does anything like that. But it works well enough that when I have done it, and later bought more split rings, I didn't replace them. So it's not my preferred method, but it is one I trust. Quote
Bazoo Posted August 16, 2024 Author Posted August 16, 2024 After having fished some lures with soft split rings, I can tell it definitely changes the sound and action of a crankbait. Much quieter, and gives it a tighter wiggle because the hooks aren't swinging as hard. I haven't tried it much, but I have caught a few fish with lures that I modified thusly. I think the reduction in sound will certainly make a difference on pressured waters. Quote
