Having a "reel" problem

Featured Replies

I just got a Quantum Energy PT last weekend and tried it out for a few minutes today.  It sounded really rough and made a whinning noise when I went to cast it. Even though it is new, do I still need to oil it?

I have 17lb. Trilene Big Game on it which Academy put on for free.  Do you think thats too heavy of a line on it?  Do I need to switch to a light line?  I only use Yo-Zuri right now for all my reels and have never had that problem.

I wouldn't even waste the time to oil it... I'd swing back by academy and exchange it.  Purely on principal.

Me too.  You paid for a PERFECT condition reel and I wouldn't settle for anything less.

Nope it isn't the line... :o

While sitting in storage the oils could have dried out (although with as much Hot Sauce they put in the reels I don't see how it could).

I personally would do as suggested and take it back for an exchange. Then I would also test it on the Academy property and make sure you don't get a repeat situation.....

Good Luck.

Tight Lines!!!

"New" and fresh out of the assembly line may not be the same thing, but as ReelMech said, with  Hor Sauce oil in it who knows, better take it back like he recomended.

bring it back and get a non quantum reel

Trade it in for a Curado

Great news, the reel is okay. Bad news, I'm stupid. LOL Operator error!!!

Just for giggles I will tell you what I did. Somehow a "person" (I won't mention any names, ME) got a hold of my reel and ran the line beside the eye of the reel instead of through the eye of the reel. The line was okay going through the eyes of the rod it was just the reel eye part that was overlooked!! LOL

I didn't think there could be anything wrong with A QUANTUM!! ;D

Oh-Oh, here comes the posse.
