One of you rich millionaires...

Featured Replies

look in quilting/sewing stores...hell even hobby lobby carries them I think.

They are gold in color and kind of shaped like some kind of a bird, $40 or $50. I was respooling in my wifes craft room to spend time with her and I quickly used them to cut some braid. It was like a light saber through Luke's hand. I said quickly because I got a very concerned look on my last "snip"...telling me if I the line was the only thing I wanted snipped I should put them down.

They've held up for her for quite a few years now.

What's a 401K?

(wife's and my 401ks, my Roth, my ESOP and her IRA all got wiped out by medical bills...reason we're on plain SS only)

Without getting too political, this is why being a millionaire means nothing.

Sounds like you're talking about Ginghers.  I bought my wife some of them several years back when she was into sewing.  Great scissors.  Really well made and SHARP!  The only problem is, other than expense, they will rust like crazy!  Not a good choice for on the lake, in my opinion.  Plus, my wife would kill me if I took them, and confiscate them if I bought my own.

You know you're rich when being a millionaire means nothing to you.  Your problem is, you've got too many rich friends, so you don't FEEL rich.  Come on down to my side of the tracks if you want to feel that million!  A million bucks buys you a lot more than you know.  Especially the stuff that's easy to take for granted, like eating out at a restaurant when it's not a special occasion, paying someone else to cut your hair, or when buying a car, asking yourself how comfortable it would be to sleep in, just in case.  I'm not proud of it, but I can rank brands of dog food by taste.   It's hard to get by out there.  And that million bucks buys you an awful lot of cushion when times get tough.

But yeah, I understand.  A million bucks isn't what it used to be.  Not long ago, it seems like, that was a mansion!  These days, it's half a small house in some cities.  It's certainly not the gateway to a life a luxury that it once was.

Still, for the purposes of this thread, it serves as shorthand for "person rich enough to start a business just for fun".

Stick around long enough and they go on sale occasionally - I picked up 3 pair for $10 last year.

And yes, they're excellent scissors for braid.

I was just at Sportsmans Warehouse, they have the Cuda scissors for $4.29

Glad you know "my problem." Thanks for the advice man. You're doing great.

There's probably quite a few of us that are aging into it with our 401ks.

Heck I am almost there just with my home.  The equity in my home and the inflation over the last few years in my area has been a blessing personally, though, the price of everything else has gone up significantly.

I'm sorry for that.  I shouldn't have said that.  I don't know you or your situation.  I apologize.

I am not now, nor have I ever been a millionaire. I am, however, rich beyond my wildest dreams.

I have a wife who loves me, and that I love dearly. I have a house to live in. I have heat in the winter, and air conditioning in the summer. I have clean drinking water available just by turning a handle. I have hot water whenever I want it. I never go hungry and have many choices as to what I want to eat. I have a vehicle to go wherever and whenever I want. I have some health problems, but I can still walk on my own and am not in debilitating pain. I have family that love me, and that I love. I am not in daily fear of being injured or killed by war or violent crime. My mind, for most part, still works well.

So...I am both blessed and lucky to be THIS rich. Sometimes we forget that even the poorest person in this country is amazingly rich compared to many people in other countries. Count your blessings.

I will now step down off the soapbox....
