what reel for this new rod?

Featured Replies

went to the PX here at FT Stewart and they had a Shimano Compre 6FT MH rod..... they had it for $47.95... needless to say it was my DUTY to buy it... now what reel should I put on it? and what would you use the setup for?

here are the ONLY Choices for reels though...

Curado 200DHSV

Curado 200DPV

Curado 100D

Citica 200

Thanks

Al,

If it were ME, I'd go with the CU100D and use it for any one or any combination of the following:

t-rigs, small jigs, close quarters pitching and spinnerbaits.

Don't be afraid of it, that rod should do anything you need it to... at closer ranges.

I just re-read that and saw 6' and not 6'6" so that's why I edited.  ...lol

I prefer the Curado to the Citica.  I was going to suggest the exact same things flechero just did, namely spinnerbaits and buzzbaits with the 100D. He beat me to the punch.

If it were ME, I'd go with the CU100D

this reel is great. light, smooth, casts a mile. you can also get it new on ebay for about $165, thats what i paid for mine.

Al : a couple of years ago I had 2 of those rods. They had extra fast tips & I used them for fishing plastic's. They were a good rod for that application. I had Shimano Curado's on them, CU 201. So if were me I would go with the high speed to get him in the boat after the hook up.

flechero,

t-rigs, small jigs, close quarters pitching and spinnerbaits
Any of those techniques would be great on that rod, and I agree with the reel. On that length of rod I would keep the size of the reel to a minimum.

Tight Lines!!!

Curado 100D hands down.  You can cast lighter stuff a mile but it can handle heavier stuff to

Yup

Dont buy the Citica you will be much happier with a Curado.

The CU100D would be my choice I already have the 200DHSV and I like it alot.  I just bought a Citica last week and I don't like it at all.  It's going back and I'm upgrading to a chonarch

the reason I said you only had those reels to pick from is because those are reels I already own. I do agree the Citica isn't nearly as smooth as a Curado... BUT they fit a niche in my armory... I like to use them for swim jigs and other vertical presentations... Besides I don't have the budget to where ALL my reels cost $200 or more... keeps the wife happy THINKING I am keeping my fishing addiction in check hahahhaha  :(
