Line question

Featured Replies

Spooled my ultralight action rod up with 6lb mono back in June or July. Used the reel 3-4 times over the summer. I plan on using it next month for trout should I respool it or the line is still good?

It will be fine as long as it wasn't stored in a hot environment.

I caught a 35 pound carp on 8# Trilene XL that was several years old.  Also 20# catfish on the same line.  A 10 pound carp on 4# XL that was also on the reel for 2-3 years.  Just check the first few feet for nicks and abrasion.

Enough line to refill a spool costs $10, for me since i buy YZH its about $5.

Yet i still will fish with the same line from 1-3 years ago because its as good as the day i put it on.

Oh an i leave my line stored in very hot and then extremely cold areas throughout the year.

Certain line cant handle that, and will go bad after awhile. But from july to now it should be more than fine. But confidence is key in fishing, so if you are worried about it, spend the $10.

I wouldn’t give it a second thought.  Just go fishing.

Tie an overhand knot in the first 5 or so feet and see if you can break it easily.  If you can strip 20' off and try and break that, if you can replace the whole line.  I use line for years but test it first.
